Brent Langley, Wildlife Artist

Bringing the Beauty of Nature to You

Art has always been a part of my life.  From earliest memories, I have been intrigued with the idea of taking what my eyes see, melding that sensory input with what my mind imagines, and translating the resulting images through my hands to paper, board, and canvas for others to experience.  My objective is to create works of art that are harmonious in all aspects, from both a compositional and a scientific viewpoint.  While the primary goal is to bring pleasure, a secondary goal is also to educate, to prompt in the viewer the desire to preserve the wonderful, extravagant, beautiful diversity of life that surrounds us.

Biographical Information

Brent Langley grew up in the vicinity of Wichita, Kansas, where he spent much of his time exploring the wild areas around his home, becoming very familiar with the birds, mammals, and reptiles of the southern great plains. He received his Bachelor's degree in Biology from WichitaStateUniversity.   He has sketched and painted wildlife as a hobby throughout his life.  Because of the demands of his job with the federal government, production of works of art was limited, and most of his paintings were sold through shows or as special commissions, or given as gifts to friends.

Brent retired from government service in September, 1999, and now lives in Coal Valley, Illinois.  He dedicates the sudden abundance of free time to sketching from nature, experimenting with color and light, and improving his artistic talents.  Although his past work dealt primarily with portraying birds in watercolor and oil, his goal is to capture all aspects of the natural world – wildlife of all types, their habits and environment, and landscapes – in a variety of media.  He has participated in workshops with noted wildlife artists John Seerey-Lester, Paco Young, and Master Wildlife Artist Robert Bateman.  He and his wife travel extensively to gather material for his paintings
